St. Paul’s ministries bring together parish life, service, music, outreach, care, fellowship, and practical support for the congregation and the wider San Miguel community.
Parish Life Ministries

Serving Within the Life of St. Paul’s

Our congregation has many talents and ministries that serve through worship, fellowship, learning, hospitality, music, pastoral care, and the shared life of the parish. We welcome you to join a committee, share your talents, and participate in this parish family more deeply.

Acolytes

 
Carry the cross during the procession and recession of the service, light and extinguish the candles and assist the priests at the altar and during the reading of the gospel.

 

Altar Guild

 
Provides care for the altar, vestments, vessels, and altar linens; prepares the sanctuary for the services and cleans up afterward.

Building Committee

 
Manages the physical building needs, including establishing a scope of work, securing competitive bids and managing repair and maintenance projects and Capital projects.

 

Care Team

 

Updates the parish’s prayer list weekly and reaches out to parishioners in need to provide support through prayers, meals and other types of care.

Children’s Sunday School

 Children’s Sunday School is provided at 10 AM on Sundays, focusing on the spiritual formation of children and youth through biblical teaching, ecclesiastical identity and adaptability.

Choir & Music Program

 Under the direction of Music Director Xavier Hernandez, the choir plays an important role in the worship life of the church, leading the congregation in hymns and service music, singing anthems and serving God through music.

 

Coffee Hour

 
Provides a generous offering of lovingly prepared food for a gathering after every Sunday service. Parishioners are invited to bring refreshments for special events.

Flower Guild

 
Manages the altar flowers for Sunday services and special services such as funerals.

Lay Eucharistic Ministers

 Take Holy Communion to parishioners who are ill or unable to leave their homes.

Lectors

 
Read the Bible readings and lead the congregation in the Prayers of the People during the services.

Media Guild

 
Provides audio visual support for the services, including live streaming, managing the microphones and sound board equipment, video recording and photography of the services.

Medical Closet

 
Medical-related equipment is available for loan to members
of the parish or the San Miguel community, including wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, shower chairs and other equipment.

 

Men’s Group

 
Meets weekly to discuss a chapter from the Bible or from books on Christian spirituality. Their discussions are lively and confidential. All welcome.

The Dani Fund

 
Manages funds provided by parishioners to help support a young man through education, clothing and medical expenses, beginning in his infancy when he was brought to St. Paul’s.

 

Ushers

 
Welcome parishioners and visitors to services, distribute service bulletins, pass the collection plates, inform the priests of attendees needing communion to be administered to them in the pews, and count service attendees.

Youth / Jovenes Program

Teens aged 12-18 gather monthly at 11 AM in a bilingual setting to explore the Bible, enjoy fun experiences, and grow in faith and service. These middle and high schoolers have a safe place to ask questions, talk about life, and connect with adult mentors.

Baking Ministry San Luis Rey

 Offering sewing classes, materials, instruction, and practical skills that support income, repair, creativity, and dignity.

 

Dispensa

 
Supporting Daniel with school, clothing, food, medicine, and ongoing parish generosity.

English Class

 
Engaging underserved children through sports, English lessons, Spanish lessons, and ongoing community initiatives.

Hair Cutting Ministry at Alma

 Provides complimentary haircutting services with care and compassion each month for seniors living at the Alma assisted living home.

Art and Iconography

 
Creativity in the arts is a vehicle for prayer and beauty in the church community.  Mary Jane Miller is a master iconographer, skilled in teaching sacred art. 

 

 

Pickleball Ministry at Santa Julia

 Provides coaching, uniforms, equipment and a pickleball court for the girls living at the Santa Julia Orphanage.

 

Sewing Ministry

 

Teaches women sewing skills and provides each student a sewing machine upon graduation from the program to enable them to sew and to provide an income for their families.

 

Youth Orchestra

 
Under the direction and training of Maestro Victor Hugo Ramos Fonseca and the funding of instruments and other support provided by St. Paul’s parishioners, youth have the opportunity to learn to play a musical instrument and to excel in an orchestra environment.

 

Medical Equipment Closet

Practical Help When It Is Needed Most

This ministry loans quality medical equipment free of charge to members of the congregation and the San Miguel community.

Available Equipment

Wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, canes, shower chairs, and other gently used medical equipment.

Free Loan Program

Equipment is loaned without charge as a practical ministry of care and support.

Donations Welcome

Gently used medical equipment and appliances are welcome.
